The Louisiana Superdome - Case Study
When the State of Louisiana was deciding which roof system to install on the Superdome after Katrina ripped off the EPDM (rubber) roof, they had one question in mind, "what system has the best wind rating?" When they installed the EPDM roof in 2002, they were assured that the roof would survive 200 mph winds (Katrina had winds of 74 to 95 mph in New Orleans according to the National Weather Service).
At the end of the day, after researching all available roof systems on the market, the Architects, Engineers & Consultants for the state recommended the installation on a spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roof. The state of Louisiana endorsed the recommendations and sent the project out for bid.
Once contracts were awarded, work began immediately in order to complete the project before the Saint's first home game. The remaining roof was removed as well as complete replacement of the steel decking. The new SPF roof system was applied directly ot the new deck.
The State of Louisiana was issued a 10 year manufacturers warranty against leaks and is also guaranteed that the roof would not blow off, even in a Category V hurricane. The warranty has no dollar limit and is non-prorated.
